Frequently asked questions
Can I use any language for the watermark text?
Yes. The text is drawn in your browser with the fonts installed on your device and added to the PDF as a picture, so any language your device can display works. Because it is a picture, the watermark text cannot be selected or searched.
What is the difference between on top of and behind the content?
On top puts the watermark over the page. Behind puts it under the text and images of the page, so it only shows where the page is empty. A page that is covered by a full-page image, such as a scan, hides a watermark that is placed behind it.
Is a watermark a protection against copying?
No. It is a visible marker. Someone with a PDF editor can remove it. To stop others from editing or printing your PDF, protect it with a password as well.
Is the rest of my PDF changed?
No. The watermark is added to the pages you choose. Text, images, links, bookmarks and form fields stay as they are, and the text of the PDF stays searchable. A digitally signed PDF loses its signature when it is changed.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside your browser on your own device, so private documents stay private. You can check this in your browser’s network panel.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large files need a lot of memory, so on an older phone a smaller file works best.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
