Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose. White is the default.
What happens to animated GIF and WebP files?
Only the first frame is converted, because a JPG is a single still picture.
What about files that are already JPG?
They are returned unchanged, so they do not lose any quality. Use Compress image if you want a smaller JPG.
How sharp is a converted SVG?
An SVG is drawn at the width you set (1600 px by default), so it is as sharp as a picture of that size can be. Increase the width for a larger picture.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside your browser on your own device, so private documents stay private. You can check this in your browser’s network panel.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large files need a lot of memory, so on an older phone a smaller file works best.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
