Frequently asked questions
Is this AI background removal?
No. You pick the color of the background and the tool makes pixels of that color transparent. It works well on plain backgrounds such as a white studio backdrop, a logo on a solid color or a scanned signature. It cannot tell a person from a busy street.
Which pictures work best?
Pictures where the background is one color, evenly lit and different from the subject: product photos on white, logos, signatures, stamps and screenshots. Soft shadows and gradients need a higher tolerance.
What do tolerance and edge softness do?
Tolerance sets how different a color may be from the one you picked and still disappear. Edge softness fades the border between what stays and what goes, so the cut-out looks less jagged. Cleaning up the edges repaints the fringe of old background color around the subject.
What is the difference between the two ways to remove?
The connected background is only the part that touches the edges of the picture, so areas inside your subject that happen to have the same color stay. “Everywhere” removes that color in the whole picture, including holes such as the inside of the letter O.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside your browser on your own device, so private documents stay private. You can check this in your browser’s network panel.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large files need a lot of memory, so on an older phone a smaller file works best.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
