Frequently asked questions
How do I make an animated GIF from several pictures?
Choose “Create an animated GIF”, add your pictures and drag them into the order you want. You can set how long each picture is shown, how often the animation repeats and how large the GIF is.
Why do GIF pictures have fewer colors?
A GIF can use only 256 colors per picture. The tool picks the best 256 and can mix them with a fine pattern (dithering) to hide banding. For photos, PNG or WebP keep far more detail.
What happens to transparent areas?
PNG and WebP keep them. A GIF keeps fully transparent areas, but soft edges become hard. A BMP cannot be transparent, so those areas are filled with the background color you choose.
What happens to files that are already in the chosen format?
They are returned unchanged. That also means an animated GIF you “convert” to GIF keeps its animation.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside your browser on your own device, so private documents stay private. You can check this in your browser’s network panel.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no fixed limit. Very large files need a lot of memory, so on an older phone a smaller file works best.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
